LEGO® Serious Play® as a method has been used by top consultants and facilitators globally for over 20 years.  In the past, in traditional forms of ‘train the facilitator’, the training has been conducted in the room by someone who has been trained in the method or considers themselves a ‘master of the process’. 

This traditional method of teaching has its merits in that colleagues meet other like-minded professionals and experience the process in action. 

However, in a globally open world where so many consultants, professionals, academics and project leaders want access to the process, we need to re-think the way in which this training happens.  If we aim to achieve a far broader reach and make the process available to a wider audience, we need to consider other options for training delivery. 

An innovative approach to facilitation of the LEGO® Serious Play® method

Over the past 2 years, we have set a new process for training delivery in place.  It’s backed by our many years of experience in using the methodology ourselves in sessions around the world and from our extensive experience in delivering classroom-based, traditional style training. 

Here’s why this blended approach to learning how to use the LEGO® Serious Play® method works: 

  • Consultants and other participants take ownership of their own progress and their learning journey.  They can re-visit the modules as many times as needed to refresh and review.   
  • Participants are able to watch videos of real sessions in action.  Yes, there is value in simulating a session.  The videos however give a real sense of what happens and experienced facilitators are able to quickly transfer this experience into their own practice. 
  • For people who want to learn in a group of like-minded colleagues, we offer LIVE webinars where we take the learning to the next level.  Conversation and further discussion happen in real time so that facilitators can apply their skills with confidence. 
  • In terms of application of the skills, we further back this up by offering participants one on one feedback on their sessions plans and reviews of videos that they take of themselves facilitating. 
  • We ensure that there are session plans that participants download to kick off their use of the method.  Session plans include for change management and dealing with team conflict – all through the power of the LEGO® bricks. 
  • What’s more, we offer our community free pop-up LIVE sessions that are also recorded.  This means that we can share the very latest knowledge, tools and techniques.  A recent example was a session on how to use the LEGO® Serious Play® methodology with dysfunctional teams. 

How do we offer Certification? 

This again is where our facilitator training is different!  We ensure that you can design and deliver a real-time workshop.  We review your session plan to check the follow and the structure. We provide feedback before you video yourself in facilitation mode. 

This means that you don’t just receive a certificate for being in the room.  You have to genuinely use the method in your particular work context!
